Valentine’s Day is on February 14th. This special day is named after a Christian martyr named Valentine, who was a priest served during the third century in Rome. The Roman Emperor at that time, Claudius II, believed single men made better soldiers than those with wives and children. The emperor ordered young men to remain single so he would have a better army to expand his empire. The priest, however, secretly conducted marriage ceremonies for young men. When Claudius II found out about this, he had the priest put in jail. While in jail, the priest befriended and healed the jailer’s blind daughter. On the evening before Valentine was to be executed, he wrote a note to the jailer’s daughter and signed “From your Valentine”.
